YOUR TASKS
You are representing the history of Early Modern Europe in its full breadth, with a global/transnational perspective in both teaching and research at an excellent academic level. Your tasks will include the training of students on all academic degree courses (teacher training and nonteacher training) at the Department of History and several joint degree courses at Bachelor‘s and Master‘s level. In addition to actively supporting young academics, we expect you to conduct examinations, supervise theses, further develop degree programs and be involved in all areas of academic self-administration. Participation in joint research activities of the Department of History and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities as well as the successful acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects are an integral part of your area of responsibility.
YOUR PROFILE
You are a distinguished scholar with outstanding national and international research achievements in Early Modern European History, as demonstrated by your publications and academic impact. You have proven pedagogical aptitude and extensive teaching experience. You hold excellent qualifications (doctorate and habilitation or equivalent). Your research clearly reflects global and transnational perspectives. You have an excellent academic network, as evidenced by research collaborations and third-party funded projects.

The position is available as of 01.02.2027. It is initially limited to 5 years. Formal requirements are detailed in Section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz – HG NRW). As a rule, the teaching load comprises nine semester hours per week (i.e., two hours per week is one 90-minute course per semester).
The tenure decision for a permanent professorship will be based on the results of a tenure evaluation to be held in the 5th year after entering into office in accordance with the Regulations for Quality Assurance in Tenure Track Procedures (TT-Oplus) at the University of Cologne.
