Professorship in Media Aesthetics with a focus on Music and Intermediality (W2) (f/m/d)

The Faculty of Human Sciences is divided into four departments, one of which is the Department of Art and Music.
YOUR TASKS
The Faculty of Human Sciences aims to further strengthen research in the area of media and digitalization and is seeking a candidate who combines perspectives from musicology and media studies. The position involves active participation in collaborative research activities within the Department of Art and Music, the faculty, and the university in the field of media and digitalization.
Teaching responsibilities include classes in the BA/MA Intermedia and BA/MA Music Mediation (Musikvermittlung and community music) programs, as well as in teacher- education programs for Music and Aesthetic Education. Additional duties include assessment activities, academic self-governance, the acquisition and management of externally funded research projects, and the development of study programs.
YOUR PROFILE
You have solid expertise in the following research and teaching areas:
the aesthetics of intermedial phenomena;
music in the context of digital media cultures;
music and sound design in audiovisual media (film, television, video games, etc.);
and music and AI (Artificial Intelligence)
— demonstrated through teaching experience and/or relevant publications.
Experience in higher-education teaching and in acquiring research grants is expected. A doctoral degree in musicology, media studies, or a related field is required, as well as a habilitation or equivalent academic achievements in one of the music-related research areas listed above.

The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date. The formal employment requirements are specified in Section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz – HG NRW). As a rule, the teaching load comprises nine semester hours per week (i.e., two hours per week is one 90-minute course per semester).
