The University of Cologne is one of the oldest and largest universities in Germany. The position is based in the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences (“WiSo-Faculty”), which is consistently ranked among the top schools in research and teaching.


YOUR TASKS
The professorship is part of the Cluster of Excellence “ECONtribute: Markets & Public Policy”, run jointly by the Universities of Cologne and Bonn and funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in the context of the Excellence Strategy. The Cluster provides a dynamic, collaborative, and international research environment for the understanding of markets and public policy, employing innovative research approaches.
The professorship will be based in the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne and the successful candidate contributes to excellent research and teaching at the Cluster and the WiSo-Faculty.
The position offers the opportunity to work with the new Adenauer School of Government at the University of Cologne and we welcome applicants interested in advancing its vibrant research and organizational development.



OUR OFFER

The position is available from January 2027 or earlier. Formal requirements are detailed in Section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz – HG NRW). Until the end of 2032, there is a reduced teaching obligation of 50% of the usual teaching load. Afterwards, the teaching load comprises nine semester hours per week.

We invite applications from exceptional scholars across all fields of economics (including, but not limited to, labour economics, environmental economics, machine learning and AI, political economy, and international economics). Candidates are expected to pursue research at the forefront of the discipline, demonstrate a strong record of outstanding publications, and show a clear commitment to research excellence. The research profile must fit to the Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute. The ideal candidate should have substantial international academic experience.
In terms of teaching, the candidate must be able to translate a strong research background into inspiring and high-quality teaching at all levels.
