Dein Job

Cologne, Germany · Full-time · Primarily on-site, with hybrid options · Paid internship · 3–6 months

Interested in how language skills, technology and human judgment come together in professional translation? Join Rheinschrift’s in-house translation team and gain practical experience translating and adapting English content for German-speaking audiences.

Whether you are studying translation, multilingual communication or a related subject, this internship offers the opportunity to develop your skills, learn professional workflows and explore your future in the language industry.

What you’ll do

  • Translate, edit and proofread English-to-German content, with guidance from experienced translators.
  • Research terminology and subject-specific information to produce accurate, consistent texts.
  • Carry out linguistic quality checks, following client instructions and style guides.
  • Work with CAT tools such as memoQ and Phrase, including translation memories and terminology databases.
  • Use automated quality assurance tools and learn how to assess their findings alongside your own linguistic judgment.
  • Learn to evaluate and post-edit machine-translated content, identifying issues with accuracy, terminology, style and context.
  • Explore how language technology supports professional localisation workflows and where human expertise makes a difference.

What you bring

  • You are enrolled in a degree programme in translation, multilingual communication, specialised communication, language technology or a related field and will remain enrolled throughout the internship.
  • You have native-level German, excellent written communication skills and a strong command of English.
  • You enjoy working closely with texts and researching unfamiliar topics.
  • You are curious about CAT tools, machine translation and AI-assisted language workflows, and keen to develop the skills to evaluate their output critically.
  • You work carefully, stay organised and are open to feedback.
  • You are available full-time for three to six months, including an initial on-site learning period in our Cologne office.

Previous professional translation or language technology experience is not required. We value strong language skills, curiosity and a willingness to learn.

What we offer

  • A paid internship with practical experience on real translation projects.
  • Guidance and constructive feedback from our in-house translators.
  • The opportunity to build your skills in translation, terminology research and linguistic quality assurance.
  • Hands-on experience with professional translation tools and technology-supported workflows.
  • An introduction to working in an international language services company.
  • The possibility of a hybrid arrangement once you have built a solid foundation in our tools and workflows. Our preference is on-site collaboration, particularly during the initial learning period.
  • Potential opportunities to continue working with us during or after your studies, depending on mutual fit and available roles.
