How do health policy measures take effect? How can the quality of health care be improved? And what can machine learning contribute to this? Help us investigate these questions using data and empirical methods.

For our research group „Managerial and economic dimensions of health care quality“ at the Hamburg Center for Health Economics (HCHE), we are looking for a student or research assistant.

At the HCHE, around 80 researchers work on solutions to current and future challenges in health care. In the DFG-funded Research Training Group, twelve doctoral researchers from business administration, economics, and health economics study how quality in health care can be explained, measured, and specifically improved.

What we offer

  • Collaboration on national and international research projects focused on Policy Evaluation and Applications of Causal Machine Learning

  • Insights into current research at the intersection of health economics, data science, and health policy

  • The opportunity to contribute your own ideas and to develop your skills in programming, machine learning, and causal inference in practice

  • Flexible working hours that fit around your studies, a workspace at the HCHE, and the option to work remotely

Your tasks

  • Reviewing literature and organizing relevant studies in a structured way

  • Preparing, analyzing, and visualizing research data

  • Developing and applying code for empirical analyses, for example in Python or R. Supporting the implementation of machine learning methods and causal inference methods

  • Helping to design and carry out empirical studies, for example on the evaluation of health policy measures or on heterogeneous treatment effects in health care

  • Supporting organizational and administrative tasks in day-to-day research

Your Profile

  • Ongoing degree in health economics, economics, data science, information systems, statistics, or a comparable field, preferably at master’s level or in an advanced bachelor’s stage

  • Interested in health economics questions and working with data

  • Interested in Machine Learning and Causal Inference, ideally complemented by some initial knowledge from courses, your own projects, or practical work

  • Some initial programming experience, for example in Python or R, and a willingness to develop your skills further

  • A careful, reliable, and independent way of working, along with enjoyment of working in a team
