A W3 professorship in the broad area of "Hybrid Microelectronics” is available at the University of Stuttgart in the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Information Technology. The professorship will be part of the Institute for Large Area Microelectronics and is associated with the management of the Institute's own 500 m² clean room facilities (https://www.igm.uni-stuttgart.de/en/research/clean_room_lab/).

We are looking for an individual with preferably an engineering background in the field of emerging microelectronic, semiconductor or photonic key technologies who is enthusiastic about contributing to research and teaching in this field. You bring a strong scientific track record and the potential to further develop innovative research directions. Experience in working with industry on application-oriented problems is welcome, but not required. We value diverse academic career paths and encourage applications from candidates who may not meet every single criterion but bring relevant experience, ideas, and motivation.

Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desirable:

•    Thin Film Electronics (TFTs, Organic, Hybrid, Low-Dimensional/2D Materials)

•    Bio-Electronics (Neural Interfaces, Optrodes)

•    Sensors & Human-Machine Interfaces (Biomedical, Haptics, Flexible Electronics)

•    Light Emission (OLEDs, Micro-LEDs, Quantum Dots)

•    Metasurfaces & Photonics (Computer Generated Holograms, Photonic Crystals, Diffractive Optical Elements, Liquid Crystals)

•    Heterogeneous Integration (Co-Packed Optics, 3D-Integration, Chiplets)

You are not expected to cover all topics. We explicitly encourage you to bring in your own ideas and shape the research profile based on your strengths and interests, making use of and further develop the clean room infrastructure. We particularly value a collaborative mindset and an interest in interdisciplinary exchange across the university’s strategic profile areas, such as quantum technologies, simulation science, digital humanities or production technologies, as well as to existing multi-PI initiatives, such as QPhoton, IQST, GSaME, IntCDC or Cyber Valley.

In teaching, you will contribute to Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. You will support students not only academically but also in their personal development, contributing to a constructive and inclusive learning environment. You are committed to mentoring and supporting students and early-career researchers in their academic and professional development. We offer a supportive environment for developing your research group, including access to funding support structures, collaboration opportunities, and mentoring within the faculty.

You will be encouraged in acquiring external funding and participating in collaborative research projects, supported by established networks and infrastructure. The ability to structure and prioritize research activities in a dynamic environment, combined with a collaborative and inclusive leadership approach, is essential.

For a qualitative assessment of your academic accomplishments, we kindly ask you to submit a short description of your three most important scientific achievements, which should be no longer than one page in total. Possible accomplishments include, for example, those in the fields of research, teaching, science and society, knowledge and technology transfer, inventions and patents, software development, and spin-offs.
