Dein Job

Company description

Single Quantum is the global leader in Superconducting Nanowire Single Photon Detectors, with applications in photonic quantum technology, time resolved microscopy and deep space optical communication. Striving to make the world’s fastest and most sensitive light detectors, the company is continuously shifting the technological edge. Single Quantum is expanding its German R&D hub located on the Stuttgart University campus and is looking for a Physicist to perform cutting edge research on SNSPDs to enable tomorrow’s ultra-sensitive light detectors.

What you will be doing

You will research and develop the next generation of ultra-low jitter and high quantum efficiency superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (SNSPDs) across the optical spectrum spanning from blue / UV to deep IR. This includes setting up cryogenic test environments that combine high bandwidth RF electronics and femtosecond laser optics, where cryogenic thermal and mechanical design are as important as RF signal integrity and fully automated operation. Working together with Single Quantum’s world leading scientific customers, you ensure that our products enable groundbreaking research in quantum technology and photonics around the globe.

Your role

  • You set up cutting edge cryogenic experiments on superconducting nanowire single photon detectors along with their cryogenic RF electronics

  • You set up a femtosecond laser with two frequency doubling stages (including a high on-off ratio a pulse picker)

  • You realize SNSPDs with a timing jitter of a few picoseconds

  • You collaborate with the world’s most prestigious research groups in the field and present your work at leading scientific conferences

Your profile

  • Above average ability to quickly understand and solve experimental physics problems

  • Ability to construct and debug experimental physics setups including cryostats, femtosecond lasers and free-space optics and cryogenic RF electronics

  • Fast independent learner, driven by curiosity

  • Experience with cryogenic and / or RF electronics is a plus

  • Experience with femtosecond Lasers is a plus

  • PhD in experimental physics

Your benefits

  • A large degree of independence

  • Opportunity to collaborate with the world’s leading researchers in the field

  • Opportunity to visit leading conferences and trade shows

  • Flexible work hours
