PhD Researcher (m/f/d)
Development of adaptive, fiber-reinforced composite materials and their (additive) manufacturing processes
The Institute for Textile and Fiber Technology (ITFT) at the University of Stuttgart conducts research in the field of adaptive fiber composite structures that can be used as facade protection systems. Previous projects have led to demonstrators such as FlectoFold, the ITECH Research Demonstrator 2018–19, and FlectoLine. The doctoral position, to be filled starting May 15, 2026, is part of the DFG-funded Research Training Group “BioBuild – Bio-inspired Materials and Systems for Responsive Building Components” (joint job posting). The research focus is on the design, development, and evaluation of bio-inspired, responsive building envelope systems. The doctoral position involves the development of adaptive components that enable complex shape changes, as well as the associated process development. The doctoral candidate will work in an interdisciplinary research team and collaborate closely with architects, engineers, biologists, and chemists at the Universities of Stuttgart and Freiburg. The position is limited until March 31, 2030.
