(W1 without tenure track)

Materials Testing Institute and Institute of Construction Materials | at the earliest convenience

The University of Stuttgart is a leading technical university in Germany and located in one of Europe’s most important high-tech and industrial regions. The university is a reliable employer, partner for technology transfer and is committed to the interdisciplinary integration of engineering, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences on a foundation of top-flight disciplinary research.

The task of the junior professorship is to investigate digital methods based on machine learning and computer vision for the sensory detection of material properties and the application behavior of building materials—with a focus on concrete—and to develop methods for the automated control of these properties. The professorship is thus intended to make an important contribution to the development and practical implementation of the digital construction site. This requires both experimental investigations and AI-based analyses.

Applicants are expected to have an outstanding doctorate, research experience in at least one of the following research areas or related fields, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines. The ability, experience, and willingness to independently apply for and lead basic or applied research projects are desirable. Participation in academic self-administration is also expected.

Possible research areas include:

  • Computer vision-based methods for determining building material properties such as chemical or granulometric parameters, rheological parameters, and mechanical properties;

  • Data-driven prediction of building material properties, especially mineral building materials;

  • Data-driven and model-supported control methods for regulating building material properties.

The other professorships at the Institute of Construction Materials and the experimental facilities at the Materials Testing Institute offer opportunities for joint innovative research on interdisciplinary topics.

The appointed person represents the subject area in the faculty's German- and English-language degree programs and in other degree programs in which the faculty is involved.
