European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

 

For our Mechanical Engineering and Technical Team, we are looking for two:

Student assistants (f/m/d)
 

part time 20h/week

 

The Position

As part of our Mechanical Engineering and Technical Team within the Detector group, you will support the Detector Group engineers, technicians and scientists in the following activities:

  • preparation and cleaning of parts and components for clean room and/or vacuum compatibility
  • quality control of detector components and systems
  • organize storage space in the clean room and in the detector labs
  • inventorize detector components and spare parts
  • support the group in administrative issues

 

Depending on the individual background and interest:

  • support in data taking, detector operation activities, mechanical modeling, or experiment preparation

 

Requirements

  • Enrolled bachelor's or master's student in Mechanical Engineering or Physics around the Hamburg area
  • Interest in work with detectors, electronics and vacuum systems
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel)
  • Well organized and motivated to join an international team
  • English is the working language, hence good English skills are necessary; fluency in German is considered an asset.
