Dein Job

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is one of the world’s leading applied research organizations. 75 institutes develop cutting-edge technologies for our economy and society – more precisely: 32 000 people working in technology, science, administration and IT. They know: If you join Fraunhofer, then you are able to promote change. For themselves, for us and for the markets of today and tomorrow.

Welcome to Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS! As the largest institute within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, we have been conducting research for over 30 years in diverse fields such as artificial intelligence, microelectronics, sensor systems, data collection, signal processing and transmission. Talents from various engineering and natural science disciplines will find a wide range of exciting research topics under a single roof. A few highlights that reflect our innovative strength: Neuromorphic computing, 5G/6G mobile communication technologies, generative AI in speech and signal processing, and X-ray imaging for e-mobility. And that’s just the beginning! Which sustainable solutions will you find with us?

Here’s how you will make a difference

Our group »Multimedia Communications« is part of the Audio and Media Technologies department and develops real-time speech and audio applications for web, mobile, and desktop platforms. We integrate in-house technologies, such as audio codecs, signal processing modules, and machine learning models, into functional frameworks, using modern software technologies and workflows. You will collaborate closely with engineers in an international environment and work on cutting-edge frameworks and technologies. As part of the team, you will contribute to one or more of the following areas:

  • Spatial Audio Applications: You develop and maintain 3D audio applications for smartphones (Android or iOS), desktop, or browsers using web technologies.
  • Cross-Platform Development: You develop cross-platform applications with Rust and Dioxus.
  • ML-Deployment: You deploy audio-based machine learning models from PyTorch onto mobile devices and NPUs, including model optimization and quantization.
  • Signal Processing Integration: You integrate internally developed audio codecs and audio signal processing algorithms into functional systems.
  • CI/CD & DevOps: You extend and maintain Git-based CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling (e.g., GitLab CI and container-based workflows with Docker or Podman) to automate building, testing, and deploying our applications.

Dein Profil

What you bring to the table

  • You have experience in at least one of the programming languages: C/C++, Rust, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • You are familiar with Git and basic software development workflows.
  • You have good communication skills in English and enjoy collaborative work in an international team.
  • Ideally, you bring experience in one or more of the following areas: Python/PyTorch (deep learning), web or basic mobile development, and DevOps/automation including scripting, CI/CD, and containerization.
  • Basic knowledge of digital signal processing, especially for speech and audio, is a plus.

What you can expect

  • Organize your schedule: Benefit from flexible working hours that are perfectly compatible with your studies.
  • Become part of a creative team: Experience an open and friendly working atmosphere in which your ideas are valued.
  • Variety that inspires: Look forward to divers tasks that inspire and challenge you.
