The Max Planck Institute for Meteorology is a multidisciplinary center for climate and Earth system research located in Hamburg, Germany. It is one of the premier climate science research institutes in the world. Your tasks

 

As a student assistant in the Communications department, you will work closely with the PR and Communications Officer and, together with a five-person team, help shape our institute's presence on social media (currently LinkedIn and Mastodon). The position is available from September 2026.

 

  • You will develop content ideas—including for research publications, projects, and events—and write your own social media posts.
  • You will edit photos, design sharepics, and assist with the production and editing of short videos, including the creation of captions.
  • You will keep track of content planning, publish posts, and support community management.
  • Using analytics  tools, you will monitor the success of our social media strategy.
  • You'll contribute creative ideas to help further develop our channels.
  • Depending on your skill level and interests, you'll take on additional tasks in photography and design.

 

Your profile

 

  • You are an enrolled student in Communication Design, (Visual) Communication, Journalism/PR, or a scientific field such as Climate and Environmental Sciences, Meteorology, or Physics, with relevant experience in communication.
  • You have a good eye for design and know which content works on social media.
  • You are fluent in English and have strong writing skills.
  • You have some experience with design tools and video editing software. Experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, or Lightroom/Bridge, Premiere) is a plus, but not required.
  • An interest in photography and videography is welcome.
  • Your work style is independent, exact, and reliable. You bring team spirit and creativity to the table.
