Within the framework of the ERC Advanced Grant "Contradictory Logics: A Radical Challenge to Logical Orthodoxy" (Prof. Heinrich Wansing), the following position is available at the Ruhr University Bochum:
For the subproject on experiments related to contradictory logics, a postdoc is sought with excellent knowledge in experiments on reasoning. The overarching project studies certain non-trivial contradictory logics. The goal of the project is to gain systematic and detailed insights into the extent to which competent speakers of a natural language respond positively to (instances of) provable contradictions. Guided by the insight that the inconsistency of non-trivial contradictory logics results from a combination of standard conditions for supporting the truth or falsity of a statement with less familiar conditions, the subproject will use qualitative empirical research methods to test agreement with (a) sentences expressing the unfamiliar conditions and (b) contradictions that are provable in the inconsistent logics under study.
Your tasks:
The tasks consist of investigating certain non-trivial contradictory logics, analyzing their properties and exploring their effects on thinking through theoretical and experimental approaches.

Your profile:
The position requires a postdoc with a solid background in experimental research in logical reasoning. A background in philosophy of language or natural language semantics would be an advantage. A completed doctoral degree is required.

The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E 13 TV-L.

If the position is funded by third-party funds the employee has no teaching obligation.
