PhD Researcher - Development of adaptive, fiber reinforced composite materials and their (additive) manufacturing processes

The Institute of Textile and Fiber Technologies (ITFT) at the University of Stuttgart conducts research in the field of adaptive fiber composite structures that can be used as façade shading systems. Previous projects have led to demonstrators such as FlectoFold, ITECH Research Demonstrator 2018-19 and FlectoLine. The vacant PhD position is embedded in the DFG-funded Research Training Group “BioBuild – Bioinspired Materials and Systems for Responsive Components” (joint job advertisement: https://www.academics.de/jobs/research-assistants-doctoral-researcher-m-f-d-universitaet-stuttgart-stuttgart-1105018). The research focuses on the design, development and evaluation of bio-inspired responsive building envelope systems. The PhD position deals with the development of adaptive components that enable complex shape changes and the associated process development. He/She will work in an interdisciplinary research team and collaborate closely with architects, engineers, biologists and chemists of the Stuttgart and Freiburg University.
