Student Assistant Position in Computational Models of Reading (All Genders Welcome!)

Universität zu Köln
Raum Köln

Dein Job

The Self-Learning Systems Lab at the University of Cologne is looking for a motivated Student Assistant (m/w/d) to support our research on computational models of reading and cognitive neuroscience.

Who we are

  • An interdisciplinary team of psychologists, linguists, and psycholinguists
  • We are interested in investigating, describing, and improving the neuro-cognitive processes implemented in reading (e.g., vision, orthographic codes, and lexical access) and language (e.g., temporal sampling).
  • We use computational modeling to develop theories about the mechanistic description of the neurocognitive processes in reading. Our computational models are then evaluated based on behavioral (e.g., eye-tracking) and brain imaging data (e.g., M/EEG, fMRI).
  • We use statistical and machine-learning methods.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in EEG data collection (no prior EEG experience needed—we’ll train you!).
  • Work closely with researchers on projects at the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, and machine learning.
  • You will have the opportunity to develop your own research in our lab, including the possibility of a Bachelor’s or  Master’s thesis.

What We Offer

  • Hands-on training in EEG data collection and analysis.
  • A collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment.
  • The chance to grow with us and potentially conduct your Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis in our lab.
  • Payment would depend on wether you are a Student or Research assistant (see here for more details: https://verwaltung.uni-koeln.de/abteilung41/content/student_and_research_assistants_and_contract_lecturers/personnel_measures/index_eng.html)

If you're interested in joining us, we’d love to hear from you! Send your short application (CV + brief motivation) to benjamin.gagl@uni-koeln.de .

Please form the E-Mail subject of your application like this: Application_SLS_Student_Assistant_FirstName_LastName

We welcome all genders and encourage applications from diverse backgrounds.
